Mulan posted a Washington state JW suicide about a week ago. Now Nebraska. And for each that we learn about how many do we not learn of? 1 other, 10 others, 100 others???

The suicides rate among JWs is either climbing dramatically this year or else being reported far more as we are becoming more open about the ongoing tragedy. It needs talked about or it'll only get worse. The WTS is really pressuring the rank-and-file JWs, thinking this will bring on Armageddon and paradise. Thou must attend every painfully long meeting and then more. Wait on us as we allow the pedophiles to rape your kids and keep your mouth shut about it.

Instead of bringing on spiritual paradise it is bringing murder. They say, too bad, they can only blame themselves if they suicide. We must uphold Jehovah's standards. Jehovah Himself does not want this bloodshed, though. WTS, you are bloodguilty apostates.

Condolences to her surviving loved ones. I think we need to talk this serial tragedy some more and let the public and those still JWs know about it. Maybe I can draw together some information on it and post it here. But then it would be lost as new threads were added. Maybe Simon needs to establish a new lasting side-board for listing suicides and giving information on how to keep it from happening, helping the survivors and the like.

Free to "Roast Preacher"

the term "roast preacher" is something many southern baptists from the old south understand.

in 1956 i met ken when he was 4 and i was 5 years old.

both of our families were from the deep southern usa, with his family being southern baptists, conservative southern democrats, and my fmaily roman catholic, moderately conservative southern democrats.. while growing up, almost every sunday morning, when ken's family returned from church ... in the car drive home and through lunch time, they often debated the preacher's sermon, and just as often found fault with the preacher and what he preached.

JWs are told Baptists lack unity when in reality "love" is the greatest bond of unity instead of countless rules about beliefs that are heaped upon JWs. Baptists love to say "God is love" for it emphasizes His main quality.

Baptists love to quote "God so loved the world He sent his only born son so that all who believe in him might not die" which points out that "all" not just those with the same set of forced beliefs can be resurrected.

Freedom and love go hand in hand. You can't have one without the other. One Baptist may believe in literal hellfire and another sitting right beside him may believe hell is sleeping in death, but both Baptists are bonded in the loving freedom of being able to believe different on that exactly as Romans 14:1-5 says.

But enough of complimenting Baptists and notice that not all Baptists allow such freedom. Some Baptist church groups are close-minded, although happily many are not. The Congregationalists and many other church groups allow far greater freedom than does the Watchtower Society.

Joy is a major fruitage for true Christians, yet how much joy among those pressure to be or stay JWs? The organization does not promote organized summer camps or anything else for them. Nor does it do so for elderly JWs. It is a disgrace. No wonder the suicides and the like!

Love, joy, peace. We need more of it.

Yes, by failing to protect children from sexual molestors the current Governing Body members show they are unfit to govern and heap reproach on Jehovah's good name. They are apostates who think they can quietly go elsewhere until the march is at an end, wait a bit then permanently disfellowship all who speak against their modern day form of child sexual sacrifice. It won't work for our voices are not being shut up and won't either since we have the kids to think of.

there is an evolution question bubbling up down the threads a little way, and it minded me to try to really get to the nub of the opposition to the technique.. i would like to pose very serious questions, and i hope they attracts serious, considered responses - once and for all.. why is it impossible, in the minds of anti-evolutionists, that god did indeed create us, the earth, the sun, and everything around us including the entire physical universe, and that evolution was his technique; evolution as a divine technique?

how do you know, how are you so certain that's not the case?

how would you explain your opposition to god if he told you personally that, yep, that's the way he did it alright?.

GLOBAL FLOODING MISREPRESENTED:

The ocean tides have risen and fallen global many times so it's untrue that there has never been global flood. In fact it is rising fast even now due to ice melting in Antartica from global warming. The melting and freezing of ice before and after the Ice Ages have also affected the planet as a whole.

TOWER OF BABEL MISREPRESENTED:

Read close. The Bible itself does not say all or most languages came from one language but rather that in that in the earth/region where a tower had been built a number of languages came to be, i.e. in the Middle East there came to be as there are right now SEMITIC (Arabic, Hebrew), INDO-EUROPEAN (Hittitite, Kurdish), TURKISH languages, and formerly were also HAMITIC languages.

They came to be not in the sense of suddenly coming to exist but in the sense that people speaking the already developed languages came pouring into the Middle East, a land good for cultivation and civilization. This happened in "Peleg's day" or time of living, which itself clues you in that it was not within a matter of seconds, hours or a single 24 hour day.

It's crazy they were an official Non-Governmental Organization in the UN 10 years till exposed on the internet they had the gall to claim they had just become a member in order to get a UN library research card! It's never ever been required anyone become an NGO just to get a UN library card! Why are they selling out the rank-and-file like this? Do they really think people never find out!

Just a quick after-thought. I've read the WTS may have some 23,000 incidents of pedophilia in those records. Think of the legal bonanza for all the victims. If each pedophile molested just 10 kids, that's 230,000 kids they raped. And let's say that's incorrect and there were only 2,300 pedophiles but 23,000 victims. Still it's horrible!! Thank you "Caesar's sword" (Ro 13:1)! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!!!

There are facts supportive of evolution but they do not mean that a source/Source/God does not exist. "Why" we exist was not brought up, but "how" living creatures came into existence was. Whether the source/Source did so "in the slowest, most tortuous and inhuman way possible," in the slowest most meandering yet godly way possible, or just all at once is not discussed. What is discussed is whether belief in evolution means you cannot also be a Christian, which is the view the both the Watchtower Society and you, Derek, appear to be taking.

You say "There's no need for a god to explain how we got here, and in fact, postulating a god, explains nothing. It just gives us more to explain." Again, the discussion was not on if existence/source/Source/God exists (though it is an obvious fact that existence exists), but if the method by which humans came into existence (evolution/nonevolution) mean one cannot be a Christian if s/he holds the one view or the other. In fact I know many people who say "I'm not 100% sure one way or another."

You close, Derek, saying "Remember Occam's Razor: "Do not multiply entities unnecessarily". Occam's Razor says that the simplest explanation is usually the right one. It does not preclude the unusual but is a generalization.

You are trying to turn the subject aside, but that's okay. Here's something on Santa Claus:

SANTA CLAUS, WHY HE IS N-O-T PAGAN: The true story about Santa though it sounds like a romantic made-up myth is historically documented, and here it appears condensed for easy reading from an article by Austin Miles, a highly reputable chaplain, writer and historian in Northern California, posted on crosswalk.com on December 20, 2001. Miles was also a writer-researcher and technical consultant for the CBS award-winning rseries Ancient Secrets of The Bible.

To begin, about 200 AD some elders met at a little church in Myra, Turkey was to decide on their next bishop and, being uncertain whom this should be, they began praying, while out at sea a ship's crew battled a storm then in desperation shouted for Nicholas, a known man of God with a long white beard, to pray for them. He did, the storm calmed down, and the ship drifted into Myra's harbor. The church elders had quit their praying, feeling sure God wanted them to appoint the first man named Nicholas entering the church to pray within the hour. When Nicholas entered they gave him a long red robe and cane or miter, and he soon became known as The Bishop of Miracles because of many spectacular answers to his prayers.

Although from a wealthy family Nicholas gave away most of his own money but was also sometimes given donations of gold coins which he wanted to put to the best use. Girls back then who did not have a dowry to get married were sold into slavery which included prostitution. To combat this on December 6th at dark Nicholas wrapped gold coins in some little bags and visited homes with a daughter who had no dowry, dropping a bag through the windows so that it landed on the hearth where the girl's clothing was drying. The next morning each family was delighted that their daughter would not have to become a slave although nobody knew who the mysterious gift-giver had been. One night a bag fell into a stocking that was drying before a fireplace instead of on the hearth, giving rise to the custom came of using stockings to hold some Christmas gifts.

Shortly before Nicholas's death on a December 6th, people learned he was the gift-giver who had brought such great joy to so many families, and om the 9th Century, the Roman Catholic Church declared him a saint, that is Saint Nicholas. His story spread, and French nuns in the 12th Century also started going out at night each year to give fruit and nuts to poor families with children on December 5 the day before Nicholas' day so that it was called St Nicholas Eve. The tradition spread to the Americas where some people still celebrate on December 6th. Luther believed the true Christmas message about Jesus Christ was diminished by the St Nicholas connection, and the Dutch-German Protestant Reform Movement sought to highlight Christ more, using the German word for Christ and child which is Christkindl from which comes Kris Kringle.

The night before Christmas on 1822, Clement Moore, the son of the Episcopal bishop of New York, and himself a theology professor, wrote the poem The Night Before Christmas for his children, which was published 1823 in the Sentinel of Troy, New York. Moore used the name Santa Claus, likely from Dutch Sinter (Saint) and Klass which is short for Nicholas. Dutch knowing little English but aware gold had been found on the fireplace hearth in Nicholas' time started the legend that the original Santa Claus had come down the chimney, landing in the cinders, and called him Cinder Klaussen. Moore's poem popularized Santa famous, he named the reindeer, and made them fly perhaps because poet Washington Irving wrote a book in 1809 about a Dutch Colonist's dream in which St Nick rode above trees in a wagon bearing gifts.

Harper's Weekly cartoonist Thomas Nash depicted Santa as plump, jolly and dressed in the red that robes worn by St Nicholas had actually used. Haddon Sundblom drew the most famous picture of Santa which was for the soft drink company Coca Cola, and the elves came from Ireland's leprechauns....... Perhaps these documented facts will surprise some readers, since from about 1920 to 2001 so much misinformation was left about by some religionists in magazines on the alleged pagan origins of Santa Claus, some even claiming he derived from wizards in the far north of Russia or an ancient god who came down chimneys in the Orient, thus needlessly denying themselves and others much joy since the true story of St Nicholas is wholly Christian - the only main exceptions being the reindeer and elves. So, ho-ho-ho and a merry Christmas to all!

He just clearly said the NCC would allow nontrinitarian groups to belong. What would however upset some JWs is that previous articles had spoken against other groups, but then they have worked with the UN as an official NGO or did rather for 10 years. And not at all unlikely they "unofficially" still work with the UN as well as the NCC. They would simply tell JW rank-and-file, that they meet and confer where necessary with the NCC but it does not mean that they are part of it in the sense of having to give up their teachings. Or something of that order.
